Welcome to Spirit Lake, Iowa

Centrally located on US Hwy 71 and Iowa Hwy 9, Spirit Lake, Iowa is 20 minutes south of Interstate 90, making it a day's drive or less from major midwest cities. It is also in the center of what is known as Iowa's Great Lakes Region, which encompasses seven beautiful natural lakes.


Spirit Lake's local economy thrives on its rich mix of recreational, industrial and commercial businesses, making it a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Krista Smith as New Executive Director


The Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce is pleased to introduce Krista Smith as its new Executive Director. A proud Spirit Lake native, Krista brings a wealth of experience in event coordination and community engagement to the role.


Krista most recently served as Director of Unified Programs for Special Olympics Iowa, where she led statewide events and managed multiple school programs. Her background includes a strong track record of volunteer coordination, effective communication and championing meaningful community experiences.


“We’re excited to welcome Krista as the new Executive Director of the Spirit Lake Chamber,” said Janelle Holter, Board Chair. “Along with her Spirit Lake roots, Krista’s leadership experience with Special Olympics Iowa make her a natural fit for this role. She has a passion for community and the ability to bring people together … qualities to help grow and support businesses here in Spirit Lake.”



Krista and her husband, Trevor, who works for the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, have a one-year-old daughter and enjoy being active in the community.

Krista will begin her new role at the Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce later this month.
